  4. HOTPOP provides a complete and easy to configure pop down 
  5. menu. HotPop can start normal applications or associated 
  6. files eg. (Readme.txt. or Bill.crd). The menu can be 
  7. accessed through a hot key combination or a mouse button 
  8. right or middle. The hot key combination and the mouse 
  9. button used to open the menu are completely configuarable. 
  10. The menu also features a built in task list and a Run 
  11. option so applications or associated files not on the menu 
  12. can be opened immediately. The  menu items can be easily 
  13. added or removed through the HOTPOP setup dialog box. The 
  14. setup features a built in find file. Also theres a feature 
  15. to only show associated files so that only executable 
  16. applications or their associated files are shown.

  18. HotPop does not clutter up your desk top with an icon. When 
  19. it's first loaded the icon will appear briefly meaning 
  20. HOTPOP is loading and then disapear. Clicking on HOTPOP 
  21. again will open up the HOTPOP menu setup.

  23. This is a demo version of HOTPOP only 10 items are allowed 
  24. on the menu at once normaly 25 items is the limit. Also when 
  25. HOTPOP is loaded the about dialog will show on demo 
  26. versions. HOTPOP is not to be sold. This demo can be used 
  27. for 15 days. So try it out and see if it helps you out.

  45. HOTPOP  SETUP:
  46.  
  47. The Zip file downloaded contains 3 files
  48.  
  49. 1) HOTPOP.exe
  50. 2) HOTPOPL.dll
  51. 3) HOTPOP.txt
  52.  
  53. HOTPOP.exe and HOTPOPL.dll need to be placed in your windows 
  54. directory. (Make sure their together).
  55.  
  56. To start HOTPOP:
  57.     
  58. Create an icon for HOTPOP through the Program Manager or 
  59. open file manager and move into your windows directory and 
  60. select HOTPOP.exe.
  61.  
  62. Once HOTPOP is selected, the HOTPOP icon will appear very 
  63. briefly in the bottom left corner of the screen. This means 
  64. HOTPOP is loading when the icon disappears HOTPOP is loaded. 
  65. On demo versions the about dialog box will appear at this time.
  66. To setup the menu double click on the icon again or the 
  67. filename and the HOTPOP setup dialog box will open.

  70. When HOTPOP is first loaded it looks in the win.ini file for 
  71. it's settings. If these settings are not found it will 
  72. create it's own defaults that will be in effect until you 
  73. have added your own menu items and hot key combo through the 
  74. HOTPOP setup dialog.

  77. The hot key default to open the menu is CTRL-ALT-A and the 
  78. Right Mouse button.

  81. NOTE: The menu cannot be activated when the setup dialog box
  82.       is open

  84. MENU SETUP:
  85.  
  86. AFTER HOTPOP HAS BEEN LOADED. TO SETUP THE MENU ITEMS CLICK 
  87. ON
  88. THE HOTPOP ICON AGAIN or the HOTPOP FILENAME AGAIN. This 
  89. will  open the setup dialog box after HOTPOP has been 
  90. initialy loaded.

  93. TO ADD A MENU ITEM:
  94.  
  95.   1) Double click on the file to be added in the file list 
  96.      box.
  97.   2) You will then be prompted for the title to appear on 
  98.      the menu enter the name and press ok.

  100. NOTE:  When Show only Associated files is selected only 
  101. files that have win.ini associations or executables will 
  102. show up (this is the default) in the file list box. These 
  103. include all the normal extensions (exe,com,bat,pif) and the 
  104. extensions that have associations in the win.ini file. eg. 
  105. if you had a cardfile named TMA.CRD it will show up because 
  106. the extension .crd is associated with the Cardfile.exe 
  107. utility. So the file TMA.CRD can appear on the menu to give 
  108. you instant access to it.

  110. TO REMOVE A MENU ITEM:
  111.  
  112.   1) Select the item to be removed from the menu items list 
  113.      box.
  114.   2) Click on the Remove button.

  117. TO FIND A FILE TO BE ADDED TO THE MENU:
  118.  
  119.   1) Click on the FIND file button
  120.   2) Enter a wild card description of the name to ADD eg. 
  121.      *.txt
  122.   3) When the file shows up in the list box double click on 
  123.      the line containing the file name.
  124.   4) You will be prompted for the name to appear on the
  125.      menu.
  126.   5) Enter the name and press ok.

  128. NOTE: FIND FILE finds all files not just executables and     
  129.       their associations

  132. HOT KEY SETUP

  134.     1) Tab or click to the hot key edit box.
  135.     2) Press the desired key combo 
  136.     3) An echo of the keys will show up.
  137.     4) Click ok or tab out of the edit box.

  140. MOUSE BUTTON SETUP

  143.     1) Click on the checkbox that has the button name.
  144.     
  145. NOTE: If you don't want to use a mouse button or you  want 
  146. to turn the mouse off just uncheck the box. The hot key 
  147. combo will still open the menu.

  150. UNLOADING HOTPOP

  152.     Select the unload button from the HOTPOP setup dialog 
  153.     box.

  156. TO OPEN A FILE NOT ON the MENU
  157.  
  158.     1) Open the HOTPOP menu and select Run...(last menu 
  159.        item)
  160.     2) You will be prompted for the name of the     
  161.         application to execute.

  163. TASK LIST
  164.  
  165. The task list will show all other applications besides the 
  166. current one. To switch tasks just select the menu item. The 
  167. task list is the first item on the menu.

  171. If the screen blinks when a menu item is being added then 
  172. the maximum number of menu items for the demo version has 
  173. been reached or the item is already on the menu.

  178. If HOTPOP is activated through a hotkey it will show up in 
  179. the upper left hand corner of the active window. If it's 
  180. activated through a mouse button it will open at the current 
  181. mouse pointer location.

  184. The best way to use HOTPOP is to put it in the load 
  185. statement of your Win.Ini file. And to add the HOTPOP.exe 
  186. file to the HotPop menu this will give you instant access to 
  187. the setup menu.
